Shipping policy

We are a US based company located in Michigan, and strive to ship all packages within 3 business days of an order being received, and commit to shipping within 5 business days. Occasionally this might be impossible due to logistical issues and we will communicate with you as appropriate.

Free shipping (or flat rate for international orders) does not apply to PO Boxes. We ship via UPS for our mats and they do not deliver to PO Boxes. We will reach out and request a new address or shipping costs for all PO box orders. If a new address is not available we will cancel and refund your order.

You will be notified through the e-mail used to place the order when we receive your order and when we print the shipping label together with the tracking information.

Most domestic orders mats are shipped by UPS Ground, FedEx Ground, or UPS Ground Saver with tracking provided automatically, but depending on the size and weight some packages are shipped by either UPS ground or USPS Priority or Ground Advantage depending on size of the package.

Please note that all terrain pieces (Tabletop Terrain Collection) and dice (Baron of Dice Collection) are shipped through our partners so will be packaged and shipped separately by and from them. Please see their websites for specific shipping policies.

Shipping is free for all orders over $99 within the contiguous 48 states for Gray Matter Mats, LLC (Gray Matter Gaming) products.

Baron of Dice and Tabletop Terrain items ship separately than Gray Matter Mats, LLC products. They also do not qualify for free shipping and have their own shipping charges.

Some items simply cannot be packaged together (usually involving our Acrylic Objective Markers and our Battle Mats), and require multiple packages. In instances like this multiple tracking numbers will be provided.

International Shipping

International shipping costs do not include any fees, taxes, or duties that might be required upon import or receipt of package. Customer is responsible for all additional fees, taxes, or duties once package has cleared customs into the final destination country.

For our mats we ship by the most affordable option, which frequently is FedEx International Connect Plus or UPS Standard. To Canada we typically try to ship FedEx International Connect Plus where possible.

Customer will still be responsible for import duties and taxes depending on your own local country's laws and regulations.

Any returns that are made by the shipping company due to the customer not paying import fees will be charged the refunded their purchase amount, minus the full cost of shipping as well as a 20% restocking fee of the order (not including shipping costs).

For all other products, we will ship by whichever shipping method you chose. International economy will frequently be UPS standard or FedEx International Connect Plus, so please contact us if you have any concerns regarding brokerage fees (especially our Canadian friends). For lightweight orders (objective markers, movement trays, etc.) we will ship under Pirate Ship which uses USPS and avoids brokerage fees, but does take longer to process.

Please also review our Etsy store as they frequently offer lower shipping on international orders due to their logistics center.

As our way to help offset expensive international shipping costs, for orders over $99 shipping is provided for $20 ($28 CAD) for all shipments to Canada (Except for Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut), $32 to certain EU countries and the UK, and $42 to other EU countries and most of Australia. If multiple packages are required to ship, the international shipping fee ($20, $32, or $42) will be charged twice to the order and you will receive two packages and be responsible for any applicable fees, taxes, or duties for each package.

When combining our mats with other items, occasionally Shopify will make a mistake and calculate the flat rate shipping charge twice even if the items can fit in the same box (i.e. - Mats and Combat Gages or Mats and Movement Trays). We've been unable to resolve this with Shopify at this time. If the flat rate shipping is calculated incorrectly, please reach out before placing the order and we can generate a custom invoice with correct shipping costs. If you don't notify us until after placing the order or after we ship the packages, you will be responsible for any charged shipping fees as well as additional fees, taxes, or duties required for customs clearance.

Please keep in mind that Baron of Dice and Tabletop Terrain ship in separate boxes and so the buyer is responsible for any import fees or taxes for each box shipped.
